This study will explore the historical context, key figures, and conceptual distinctions that characterized these periods.</p> <h2 id="context">Context</h2> <p>The emergence of philosophy in ancient Greece was closely tied to the development of <strong>democracy</strong> and the <strong>polis</strong>, or city-state. The early Greek philosophers sought to understand the nature of reality, knowledge, and human existence within this new societal context. However, as Christianity rose to prominence and the Roman Empire fell, philosophy became increasingly subordinate to theology.</p>
